no joy in the bikes

The after-effects from Hurricane Ike meant there was no 250cc class last night at the Indianapolis MotoGP which was a shame. I had a nice book going pre-race which always helps with trading in-running. Ah well, c'est la vie. Didn't get a chance to trade the 125cc race, and as I said, the MotoGP is often a little harder, so as I couldn't focus on it, I chose to leave it.

Sunday action

More MotoGP to get involved in tonight, althought it's at an odd hour being in the USA. Not sure how liquidity will go up against NFL and various other sports, although to be honest, most MotoGP punters are probably European, so it could be even better than normal. The strategy is simply keep laying the shorties bit-by-bit and take advantage of the changing prices. Give a half-decent price for the punters to take and you'll see action. Don't know the sport? Irrelevant, you just have to understand that most punters will see a price and take it so long as it is half decent, and that with motorbikes, the lead changes so often, that the race is live until the end. And the underclasses are usually better than the main race as the margins you can work to are much higher. You won't make thousands out of it, but you'll return a nice healthy profit on £20 or £50 risks.. And for a punt in La Liga, I fancy Deportivo to beat Villarreal at about 4.2.

gotta love the bikes

I used to really enjoy F1, but the more it becomes about technology and tactics rather than the skill and guts of the driver, the less I care about it. Motor sports that are far more level - NASCAR, MotoGP etc are more exciting to me as a fan and also as a trader, because the lead changes frequently, and you never know who has won until the very end. Trading the lower classes of MotoGP is brilliant - highly competitive, markets with big margins meaning if you keep offering a price and not take too many risks, you can end up with a very nice book as above. And you don't even need to worry about the final result!

250cc race much tougher, but still tradeable

The 2.5 favourite jumped straight to the front, but because of the high market percentage and weak liquidity, you can still lay several runners and go green. The race is only half over but I've closed out, can't see much else happening unless the leader falls off.

love the 125cc

Eight laps to go, profit locked in, now I can sit back and watch the finish without stressing about the odds.... The secret of this is laying bit by bit, as many runners as you can, without letting your liability get too high, then keeping doing it over and over. It works best (for me) on sports where positions are constantly changing and where liquidity isn't so strong. Lower-profile events in motor racing and golf work best for me. Now for the 250cc race!

today's trading

Sundays are usually a great day for lower profile events and being able to lay a book. It's the German MotoGP all day on Eurosport. I'm not interested in the big race, but the underclasses (125cc and 250cc) give you a great opportunity to lay riders at prices way too short. I won't give away all my secrets, but there are bookies out there trading live to give you a guide for prices, in motorcycling, passing is far more common, and especially if it's wet, then you've got to keep laying the short prices.
